Remote Access to Library Resources

Creating a MyNCBI account enables several helpful features:

• Save searches and automate e-mail alerts from PubMed
• Customize search results to highlight search terms and include KUMC FindIt! button
• Access MyBibliography to track your publications
• Access SciENcv researcher profile system for federal grants

Note: To log in to MyNCBI you cannot use a link the the KUMC Library proxy prefix.

Follow these steps to set up a MyNCBI account.

1. Navigate to PubMed using the below link, which does not contain the KUMC Library proxy prefix.

2. Click on the Log In link from their start page.
3. Click the link to Sign Up.
4. MyNCBI does not maintain individual account credentials for security reasons. You will need to select an existing account that you will use to authenticate to MyNCBI. You may use your KUMC credentials by selecting More Options and then searching for University of Kansas Medical Center or you may use credentials from another account you already have, such as with eRA Commons or ORCID.

5. Authenticate to the account you selected.
6. Complete the account registration form, filling in the required information and click Create Account.
5. Subsequently, use the Log In link on the PubMed landing page and select the account you want to use to authenticate.

Adding the KUMC FindIt! buttons to your MyNCBI account settings will ensure that you're always able to access to KUMC Library resources.

Follow these steps to customize your MyNCBI account with our FindIt! buttons:

1. Navigate to PubMed.
2. Click on the Log In link.
3. Authenticate to your MyNCBI account using the 3rd Party credentials you established during account creation.
4. Click your username and select Account Settings from the drop-down menu

5. Click MyNCBI Site Preferences

6. Click Outside Tool link and search for University of Kansas Medical Center - Find It!.
7. You should now see the KUMC Find It! button in your PubMed search results any time you are logged in to your MyNCBI account!
