My NCBI

Information, links, and best practices of utilizing My NCBI accounts and features.

My NCBI Account Credentials

My NCBI relies on third party account login credentials to create and access My NCBI accounts. My NCBI accounts are initially created with one of these third party credentials and more may be added to the same account afterward. Common credentials include eRA Commons, Login.gov, ORCID, NIH, and others.

Creating a New My NCBI Account

Note: If you already have a pre-existing My NCBI account logging in with credentials that are not affiliated with that account will create a duplicate account. This duplicate account will require direct and potentially assistance from the NLM Help Desk to merge the accounts.

To create a new My NCBI account:

  • Click on the link below
  • Choose your third-party credential of choice
    • If you would like to use the KUMC Central Authentication Services (CAS) login, click on "more sign up options," search for "University of Kansas Medical Center" (NOT "University of Kansas"), and enter in your usual KUMC credentials. If you create an account in this manner it's highly recommend you add an additional login credentials to ensure continue account to your My NCBI account.

  • After entering your credentials follow the instructions to create the account.

Logging Into an Existing My NCBI Account

To log in to a pre-existing My NCBI account when on a KUMC campus, click on the link below and select the (or one of the) third party login credentials associated with the account.

Adding Additional Login Credentials

My NCBI accounts may have more than one third party login credential. Dykes Library recommends adding more than one login credential to a My NCBI account so that KUMC users will have a backup method to always retain access to their account.

Accessing My NCBI When Away From KUMC

KUMC library users may access a proxied version of PubMed from the library homepage. This access allows the ability to view links to full text copies of articles by clicking on either a publisher access link or a blue Find It! @ KUMC link. However, this proxied site will not allow a My NCBI account login while off-campus.

To log in to and use a My NCBI account when off of any KUMC campus and retain the blue Find It! @ KUMC access option, use the link below to log in to My NCBI.

This will disable the ability to access access a full text copy directly from a publisher site via an article record in PubMed. Full text copies may still be obtained (when available) through the blue Find It! @ KUMC link.
