Linking to E-Journals and E-Books

Creating Links for Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

Overview

Course reserves or e-reserves are electronically accessible, full-text articles and book chapters that are supplemental in nature and meet fair use copyright guidelines. They benefit students by offering anywhere, anytime access to course readings. For more information about fair use, review the copyright decision tree.

Using Blackboard provides access to e-reserve readings, protects the rights of copyright owners and limits any liability on the part of the University as described in the KUMC Copyright Policy and Guidelines. For assistance adding these links to Blackboard, contact Teaching and Learning Technologies support or the Medical Education Technology office.

Copyright Compliance Notice

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT COMPLIANCE:

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain circumstances specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the Copyright law.
