Using CWYW feature in EndNote

EndNote’s Cite While You Write (CWYW) will be installed in MS Word while you are installing EndNote. CWYW feature helps to create in-text citations, bibliography, and footnotes in specific citation styles such as APA, AMA, Chicago etc. in your document with a touch of a button.

Select EndNote 2025 tab from Word's Menu bar. The Insert Citation menu will allow you to features including Insert selected citation(s), Search and insert citation(s), Insert year or author only, Delete a citation, Preflight and submission  etc. Change the citation style by using the Style menu.

Can't see EndNote Tab in Your MS Word ? 

  1. Update your MS Word to 2016
  2. Click on File and select "Options."
  3. Click on "Add-ins."
  4. Change the "Manage" options to "Disabled Items."
  5. Click Go.
  6. Highlight any EndNote item(s) and click "Enable."
  7. Click OK.

CWYW Requirements:

  • MS Word 2016 to Word 365
  • Windows 10 and above and Mac OS 10.4 and above 
  • CWYW must be enabled via “Configure EndNote.exe” (Windows) or Customizer (Mac)

Do you want to edit a citation in the document? Use Edit & Manage citation(s) tab; do not use keyboard functions such as backspace or delete keys.
