Interprofessional Collaboration

A guide to resources for faculty, clinicians, and students engaging in interprofessional education and practice.

What is IPE/CP?

"Interprofessional Education (IPE) occurs when two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to improve collaboration and the quality of care" (CAIPE, 2002).

Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (CP) occurs "when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, careers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care" (WHO, 2010).

Principles of IPE

IPE/CP Thoughts

It is no longer enough for health workers to be professionals. In the current global climate, health workers also need to be interprofessional"
(WHO, 2010, Framework for Action on IPE & CP, p.36).

"We all have a moral obligation to work together to improve care for patients"
(Pronovost & Vohr, Safe Patients- Smart Hospitals, 2010, p.137).
