Citation Management Tools

A guide helping researchers and students select and use citation management and reference generator software.

Getting Started

EndNote X9 will not be available until the Spring Semester.

Citation management tools allow you to:

  • Build a database of your references
  • Attach articles to references so that all your research is in one place
  • Cite your sources in your paper with a touch of a button
  • Automatically build your bibliography (also called works cited/reference list)

Citation generators allow you to:

  • Create a citation and bibliographic reference that you can copy and paste into your document.
  • NOTE: Citation generators do not save your references.
We  highly recommend you to use the KUMC licensed bibliographic management tool, EndNote, than using an open source software. KUMC managed computers no longer support MS Word plugin and online syncing of Zotero and Mendely.
